Paul Smith Customer Service Issue
I love getting reader mail - it makes me feel like people actually read the blog. A Purse Pal sent me the following horror story about a Paul Smith bag they splurged on (the gal paid full price, which is something I can hardly ever do!), and then the bag didn't hold up like a bag in that price range should. Here is her exact account:
"I am having a HUGE issue with Paul Smith the company that makes the handbags and luxury goods etc. If you want to put a warning for consumers up that would be great because I am so upset with them.
Here is the deal. I bought a handbag from them in England and spent about 800 u.s.d. on the bag. After using the bag only about 8 times I noticed that the handles were breaking. I emailed the company and they asked me to send the bag back to them. They didnt offer to pay shipping so I spent 94.00 to ship the bag to England. After about 3 weeks the lady in charge emails me and says they cant fix my bag and will not offer me an exchange or refund. That the handles breaking is just "normal wear and tear" which to me is insane since they were literally breaking off from the bag. She said they could and would do nothing about the bag and that I am basically out of luck and will get no compensation. So I am out 900.00 for a purse that is useless. I am not a rich person and I was very reluctant to spend so much on a purse but I figured I would use it for years and I loved it. Now they are telling me that they will not have the decency to fix it or replace the bag and that is in such poor taste. When you are charging such outrageous prices the least they can do is offer good customer service."
Sadly, this is probably not a rare incident when it comes expensive fashion purchases. Some items just aren't made properly and they do fall apart, and they absolutely need to be replaced if they do! Paul Smith clearly doesn't stand behind their products, so please keep this in mind if you decide to go for one of his fun signature stripe accessories. I was once head over heels with this company's designs, but now I definitely won't splurge on their items and then get stuck with a lousy bag.
If you have a cautionary tale about any designer's customer service or faulty merchandise, please email me at PurseDeals@gmail.com. I will glady post your tale in order to warn other Purse Dealers - because it isn't a deal if it falls apart.

Wow, you get a free bag when you buy a bag! I've actually seen this MJ tote when it was sold seperately, and I liked the shape a lot. I've never seen it in this gorgeous blue, which makes me love the bag even more. It would be the perfect rainy day or gym bag. And this might be the perfect time to buy these Marc by Marc Jacobs Pump with Sequined Ribbon on sale for $225 (Original Price $450).

Recent eBay Experience/Advice
As a frequent eBay user, I try to pass on my experience and advice to my fellow Purse Dealers. When a situation comes up that I feel y'all should know about I will share it here.
So here goes:
A great Marc Jacobs bag popped on eBay this week that I adore. A couple red flags were on the listing that everyone should look out for: 1) Print Ad Pictures: Professional photography shots obtained from online stores like Saks or eLuxury. 2) New eBay user with low feedback.
Now, while these are red flags you should always recognize, it doesn't always mean the auction isn't legitimate. If I am truly interested in the item, I always send an email to the seller and ask for additional pictures. Emails are free, and sometimes the seller does end up improving their listing by adding actual pictures of the bag. And if the listing accepts Paypal - if I get a fake bag or nothing at all I can get my money back (minus a $25 processing fee, since the seller is new and not fully protected). If this listing specified wire transfer ONLY, I would have not given it a second thought - because those are the listings that take your money and run.
So I sent an email to the seller telling them that I would like to see pictures of the acutal bag for sale, because the pictures in the listing appeared to be from a Print ad. The response I got back was highly disconcerting:
"Those are actually pictures I used photoshop it helps sell better. I will email you some more pictures though. Thanks"
My first reaction was a strong: "Yeah right!" To confirm my suspicions, I looked up the bag on eLuxury and saw the pictures were exactly the ssame. If a sellers tries to claim that professional-department store quality photos are their own, you should move on. In previous experiences where I have asked for extra photos, I have gotten the similiarly ridiculous reponse "My computer isn't allowing me to upload photos today, if you use Buy it Now I will ship free." I don't care what extra bonus a seller offers me - they should ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be able to provide extra photos of the bag so I can confirm its authenticity. If a seller isn't willing to do that: Move on and find another seller who will. A smart eBayer is not only patient but careful - and the best way to get a good deal is to avoid dishonest sellers.
Best of luck with eBay - and if you have an eBay experience that you want to share with the readers of this blog, please send it my way at PurseDeals@gmail.com.

Get Your Spanx: 10% Off
I've heard too many ringing endorsements about Spanx not to try them out. Oprah, Kathy Griffin, and several magazines like US Weekly frequently rave about these great shapers. Even the slimmest women like Nicole Kidman still wear spanx because not only do these patented designs shape your body without pinching or restricting, but they also won't give you any VPLs (Visible Panty Lines are the devil!). While these shapers are more expensive than other brands, I've heard too much good things about them not to invest in few.
Fortunately, there is a great selection of Spanx at Bare Necessities. And you can get 10% off until 3/30/06. I am definitely eyeing the following great items, but Bare Necessites have over 20 different products to choose from.
Spanx Hide and Sleek Full Slip Shapewear
Spanx Power Panty Shapewear

When will women learn to buy comfortable shoes?
Ladies, we need to talk about something very serious that occured on American Idol last night. Sure, "serious" and "American Idol" shouldn't be in the same sentence, but it needs to be addressed. In her opening interview, the large and fabulous Mandisa complained to Ryan that her shoes were killing her. Most women would and should power through this, but Mandisa took up Ryan's offer to remove the shoes and performed BAREFOOT on national television.
Words cannot describe how disgusted I am by this, and it actually made NOT vote for her (as I had planned to all week). Too many women make the mistake of choosing uncomfortable and unrealistic shoes. Any woman could have looked at Mandisa strappy stilleto in the store and easily determined that it was not the right shoe for them. Very few women can get through more than 15 minutes in very high heels - you basically have to be superskinny with giant sturdy feet like Paris Hilton to wear heels higher than 3 inches. Even if you do somehow manage to get through the night with them - they can cause serious damage to your feet. So you can save yourself a lot of pain and barefoot humiliation just by choosing suitable shoes that you can wear for hours at a time.
Fortunately, there are brands that offer comfortable dress shoes. My favorite comfort brands are Cloud Nine by Nine West, Aerosoles, and Easy Spirit. Because mostly older women buy these shoes, some of the styles can be quite matronly (to say the least), but if you dig through all the styles you can find a fantastic and comfortable shoe. For example, look at these cute shoes:
Aerosoles - Refresh (Azalea Combo) - Women's
$55.95 (Original Price $63.95)
Aerosoles - Bubble Trap (Tan Leather) - Women's
Just by looking at them you can't tell they are extra-cushioned, but your feet will know the difference!
Keep in the mind the following tips when choosing an a comfortable shoe.
1) Choose a sturdy heel. A thicker heel is still dressy and gives you more ground to work with.
Easy Spirit - Felicidad (Dark Red) - Women's
$76.95 (Original Price $92.95)
Easy Spirit - Await (Dk Blue/Dk Blue Leather) - Women's
2) Get a lower heel. A heel between 1 and 2 inches is still a heel - and instead of dancing barefoot at weddings like a hillbilly - you can actually dance in these.
Aerosoles - Microphone (Blue Leather) - Women's
$51.95 (Original Price $62.95)
Aerosoles - Cutting Edge (Buttercup Leather) - Women's
$64.95 (Original Price $72.95)
3) Get a wedge heel. Bless the wedge heel! It has all the height but none of the horror of a high heel shoe. Many designers make fantastic wedge heels, so you don't have to stick to the "comfort" brands. But here are some my favorites anyway.
Aerosoles - Masheen (Pink Leather) - Women's
$54.95 (Original Price $69.95)
Aerosoles - Planket (Caribbean Leather) - Women's
